FIRST-TRIP OUTLINE

Seven-day Japan outline

Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka can fit into one week only when you are clear about what the week includes.

This outline assumes arrival in Tokyo and departure from Kansai Airport, with seven days that include the moving days. It is a planning example, not an airline or rail booking. If your flights differ, change the city order or remove a city before shrinking every day.

A week with honest edges

  1. DAY 1
    Arrival / Tokyo

Settle in, not a full sightseeing day

Get to your actual base, arrange the next meal and stop. Terminal access, entry procedures and the hotel walk are not contained in an advertised train time.

    Plan this part →
  2. DAY 2
    Tokyo / East

    Choose the eastern route

Asakusa is the main visit. Add Ueno only if the second district still feels useful after lunch.

    Plan this part →
  3. DAY 3
    Tokyo / West

    A contrasting Tokyo day

Let shrine woods and the Harajuku–Shibuya streets form the day. Keep dinner and the return journey manageable.

    Plan this part →
  4. DAY 4
    Move / Kyoto

    Count the transfer

Reach the long-distance station, travel to Kyoto and check in. Keep any neighborhood walk small; this is not a hidden full temple day.

    Plan this part →
  5. DAY 5
    Kyoto / One area

    Choose east, south or west

Pick Higashiyama for eastern streets. Swap the whole day for Fushimi Inari or Arashiyama if that matters more; do not try to keep all three.

    Plan this part →
  6. DAY 6
    Move / Osaka

A lighter move and a southern evening

Leave time for bags and check-in, then use only the part of Namba and Dotonbori that fits. The complete castle route belongs on a longer stay.

    Plan this part →
  7. DAY 7
    Departure / Kansai

    Protect the airport journey

Check the exact airport, terminal and complete route before setting a sightseeing plan. Remove the final outing when it would reduce a sensible departure buffer.

    Plan this part →

If you have less time

Keep one main base or concentrate on Kyoto and Osaka. The first thing to remove is an extra hotel move, not every break. A trip can be successful without all three cities.

If you have more time

Add another full Kyoto area day or a separate Osaka park day. An extra night is useful when it creates a whole usable day rather than just a later arrival and another checkout.
